Foundations of life

This is along the side of a road I travel frequently, it WAS the foundation of a house. There is an inscription on it, but I could not get close enough to read it. Mayhaps I will when the snow clears this summer...

There are quite a few of these along roads in these parts, old abandoned foundations. I always wonder where the rest of the house went, what happened to it, did it collapse? Did it burn? Who lived there. Such a simple hidden in the woods land mark, that most people over look sparks so many questions in me about the people who used to call this home.
