Bark

I pass this tree on my runs quite a lot, it sits in the large gardens of an old manor house, right beside a big stone wall, the pavement runs right along side it and I have often marvelled at its bark. Its especially stunning in the rain. I used to think it was snake skin bark - but I am not so sure now. Anyone any ideas?

Have had a quick google search - I think it is an american sycamore (plane) does not sound quite as exotic as I first thought but beautiful none the less
