WATERSHIP DOWNS
My local Golf course has a bit of a rabbit problem - I call it "Watership Downs'
The two are strange bedfellows - on the one hand -watching "Watership Downs" (the movie) there wasnt a dry eye in the house -
Looking at the problems caused by the rabbits at the golf course they are sheding tears for the opposite reason - the rabbits are causing havoc!!
It got me thinking too about the NZ wild-life - we dont have much and what we do have is imported mainly from the old Country. Our Pioneers wanted to recreate their old surroundings - introducing - Rabbits, Possums, Rats, stoats, weasels & Gorse - to name a few.
The only native mamal we have is a little Bat - otherwise its birds, mainly of a the
flightless variety - Takahe, weka's,pukeko, kiwis, bellbirds, tuis etc hence a lot of our native birds are under the kosh as the invaders capture birds in their nests.
Oh for some lions or tigers ??
