(my) Owl Babies
Talked with my brother and sister in law last night about my girls and how they are coping with going from living with both parents to being with me full time and seeing their dad for one evening a week and one day every other fortnight.
They seem OK, children are resilient and luckily they are very very close. Like other lone parents, I deal with the homework, washing, bathtime, bedtimes and early morning grumbles and fights while it is still a novelty to see their dad and he just has the good bits.
But, they know that I am here for them - no matter what, I won't pack up and leave and I will love them unconditionally until the last breath has left my body.
Lily, my eldest is at uni now and I am so proud that she has grown up into a wonderful, beautiful clever, funny young lady despite the ups and downs of modern family life.
I have been thinking about my three girls as it's almost Mothers Day and spotted my three brass owls. I had thought they were mum, dad and little baby owl - the archetypal 'perfect' family.
But tonight I realised that actually they represented my three ladies. They are the perfect family and I am so lucky.
They know I am here for them, always and forever. One of Evie?s favourite stories is Owl Babies...
"Three baby owls, wake up one night in their hole in a tree to find that their mother has gone. So they sit on a branch and wait. Darkness gathers and the owls grow anxious, wondering when their mother will return. But, at last, she does, and they bounce up and down with joy, welcoming her home."
