....Stand and deliver.....
Even Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask!!!
It's been an expensive day.........car tax due. I remember when it used to be called the Road Fund Licence and the revenue was meant to be spent on the roads for repairs etc. Now it's just called a Tax Disc! No pretence of anything other than raising money for the Government!
I drive a Renault 16v 1.6 Scenic, regularly maintained by an excellent mechanic and drive less than 10, 000 miles per year.....and my tax for 6 months is £110!
Last month £50 plus for an MOT to say the car is roadworthy, today £110 for a tax disc.............only it wasn't. When I arrived at the Post Office, cash in hand to pay, the smiling bandit behind the counter , smirked and said, "Oh, by the way Sir, the duty has increased, it's now £115.50p"
What? When did that happen? That crept in on the QT. Seems it was last week's budget that did it, don't remember that being reported on the news, just lots about how that nice man, the Chancellor, was postponing the rise in Fuel Tax. Not abolishing or reducing the tax, just postponing the rise!
On my way home I realised that now we're in to April I also needed to renew my Fishing Licence.......and that's gone up to £27 for the year, and I had to go to a different Post Office to get that.
So I left home at 8.00 and returned less than 2 hours later £142.50 lighter and all I had to show for it was two small pieces of paper!!!!
Oh well at least United won again. The Son and Heir and YH came round to see the Boss for an early Mother's Day as they're both working tomorrow and I ended up cooking. Stir fry chicken and vegetables with noodles and very nice it was too, even if I do say so myself.
Now if only the weather will hold for tomorrow's fishing it might end up not being a bad weekend after all.
