Prickly bush buds

Spent ages in the garden balancing on a ladder spanning the pond. I was laying face down cutting back all the over grown plants. Got smelly, dirty and wet.
Quickly washed and took a few more photos, here is one at the end of the garden, no idea what it is but it's particularly prickly.
