Nest Among Blossoms
I chose this image for today's blip because, although I pass this tree on a daily basis, I had not noticed the paper wasps' nest in its branches before now. I think this is a cherry tree, but I can't swear to it. It stands in front of a century-old Church which serves as home to several congregations, a community center, a small radio station, a music hall, three stained glass windows by Louis Comfort Tiffany, and a theater. The choice of a cherry tree may well have to do with some of the Peace activism that goes on here (recalling the Japanese cherries in Washington DC, which in turn hark back to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki).
As for the wasps' nest, it seems to be empty of residents, but it is still whole and round. I was pleased to find it on a chilly and overcast evening.
