suburban ennui

i watched little children again today, making it the first film of the year i have seen twice. so many of my favorite movies deal with this subject (closer, fight club, american beauty, to some extent edward scissorhands). i find the subject fascinating. middleclass guilt is like a self constructed cage. it's like "we are well off enough to afford ipods which we can use to listen to songs about how it sucks being trapped in suburbia". so we occupy our time with idle concerns. and i am guilty of this myself... i mean, hey, what else are we going to do?
