A bid for freedom

My friend's Hippeastrum which I have inherited. See an earlier photo here. I've seen it flower for her several time's and here it is, 250 miles from its original home, about to do it again. She never changed it's soil or fed it or did any of the things the horticulturalists say you should and it's still finding the strength to put up two beautiful scarlet trumpets.

It looks spectacular if you click the magnifying glass!
