City Symbols

This is a piece of public art that I've walked past hundreds of times, but I've never stopped to study it. It's one of two panels that make up the Ivegate Arch, designed by Peter Parkinson and constructed by Richard Quinnel. The arch is meant to symbolise an historic entrance to Bradford City Centre, and each panel is composed of various images associated with the city.

I'm still trying to decode all of these images, although the pipe smoking JB Priestley is prominent. The cathedral is also there, but perhaps you'd like to have fun interpreting the rest for yourself?

Loyal followers of this blip blog may recognise the location of Mirror Slabs just beyond the arch.
