Red-breasted sapsucker

Caught this guy playing his song of romance on this oil can this morning.
Read or heard somewhere that they tap with their beaks on metallic objects to get the attention of females. There were two birds when I first saw them but one left before I could identify whether it was a male or female.
They are shy and when I tried to slowly move around the rhododendron it spooked him and he left. At least I got a few shots off before that.
Hand held, free standing.
