Lake Pearson
Dawn broke after a night of heavy rain and wind, a quiet sunrise followed by a clear blue sky. Today was the day Hubby and I decided to head inland along the Arthurs Pass road, just follow the road.
We got away in good time and once in the country discovered a dusting of snow on the mountains. Once we got past the small settlements we started to climb and became part of the mountains. It was beautiful - huge snowcapped mountains with layers of cloud of all thicknesses and blue sky. We got to Lake Lyndon where the mist was hovering above the lake while the sun was shining and glistening on the lake - it was breathtaking. We carried on to Castle Hill which is limestone country with fascinating rock formations.
After lingering for a while we continued on to Lake Pearson. The lake is set against erosion-torn hillsides, burnt by early runholders, and is well stocked with rainbow and brown trout. It is also home for the sleek Crested Grebe, a tail-less waterbird. In Winter there is snow all through this area, so pretty but here you have a early Autumn at Lake Pearson - the Maori name is Moana Rua.
No sooner had I taken this shot, the wind came up and within 30mins there were small white capped waves. I hope to put some more shots of today on my blipfolio which I haven't used yet.
This is an iconic shot of Lake Pearson :)
Edit: Photos of misty Lake Lyndon and Lake Pearson are here.
