End of an era
They demolished the Scout Hall today at lunchtime. Took about ten minutes. Except for the chimney.
The hall had been a parachute drying shed at the military airbase at East Fortune during WW2. After the war, the local butcher bought it and gifted it to 1st Dunbar Scouts. I did some research on it earlier this year and spoke to someone who could remember it arriving on a flat bed truck.
To be honest, it was a tip: damp, smelly, rotten and mice-ridden. We're going to have a new Scout Hall next year in the new community centre they're building on the Bleachingfield. But it was still sad to see it go.
I realised later I still have a set of keys for it on my keyring. Wonder what I should do with them?
