Here is something short and fiercely straightforward:

Went on a brief ride this morning with Leah to test out some new equipment but the day certainly took one of those hole-up-inside-with-some-good-books kind of turns.

Last week my mom wanted us to start a family book club and I was put in charge of selecting the title. With all of the current woes happening in Japan right now and with my long-standing affinity towards modern/postmodern Japanese literature and cinema, Murakami's collection of stories, After the Quake, seemed like an appropriate choice. It is one of the few works of his that I have not read yet (this was also one of the stipulations for the family book club--it had to be something no one had read).

Next week is going to be busy with volunteer tutoring and exam studying and Leah is out at the moment studying herself. So this afternoon has presented itself, grayingly, as a fine one for books and tea. After the ride this morning, I put on fleece pants and a sweatshirt and on me they will stay until an as of yet undetermined time.

Later:

I was humbled to have my journal heartily recommended by Temple Tours for "Sub Sunday". And now I would like to return the favor, and not just because I feel some sense of repayment is necessary. Observe, feast: Temple Tours. No, this is real stuff; keenly observed and expertly captured. Whether it is candidly colorful moments of her young daughter (or fiery juxtaposed moments as well) or bleak snapshots of urban Scottish life, Temple Tours pulls it off and pulls it off well. And she does it all with this wittily succint and lyrically vast accompanying text as well, which often make for pleasurable experiences all in themselves. Enjoy!
