Lugworm
Back to my home town this weekend in the North East of Scotland to visit my dad. Very difficult to choose photographs as it is stunning but I went for these lugworm casts. This little lugworm colony has been in this spot for as long as I can remember.
The worms can grow up to 9 inches long and live in a burrow under the sand. They suck sand in at the mouth end leaving a little depression in the sand and ah "excrete" it at the other end leaving the cast behind. I am not entirely sure what they are for but I guess fish must dig them up and eat them as they make good fishing bait apparently.
