Just Whittlin'

What is it with boys, penknives and sticks?
H loves to borrow his dad's penknife and whittle sticks. He likes to sharpen them to a point. Perhaps it's some kind of primeval instinct which harks back to a time when a boy needed a pointy stick in case of a passing Sabre-tooth tiger kind of emergency. Who knew when a pointy stick might come in handy eh?
Well, should we ever encounter a Sabre-tooth tiger kind of emergency on our family walks, rest assured fellow Blippers, the Grant family will be well-protected by H and his collection of pointy sticks.
In the absence of Sabre-tooth tigers the pointy stick is pressed into service skewering innocent leaves, fungi and logs...and occasionally, when he thinks I'm not looking, giving the dog a gentle poke.
It's his birthday soon and I'm treating him to a little whittling kit...the boy, not the dog, so I'm expecting the collection of pointy sticks to grow exponentially in the near future.
Hope you're all having a lovely weekend.
