Never Judge A Demo By It's Photos

4.45 p.m. Oxford Circus, London. If estimates are to be believed almost a half a million people marched through central London today to demonstrate against cuts across the public sector that shall impact on this country for a generation or more. Losing libraries, community centres, hospital wards and schools.

If you believed the mainstream media this afternoon, then you would have believed the country was on the verge of anarchy. Sadly, I had to be at the day job today and was only able to go out during the afternoon. Oxford Circus was described this afternoon as descending into 'Mob Rule'. All I saw was some paint that had been thrown at Topshop, who's owner Sir Phillip Green bypasses paying millions in tax to this country by using overseas accounts. Even this ceremonial burning of a trojan horse had the backing of police officers in the area. A handful of protestors decided they would like to have a fight with the lines of riot police, but nothing serious happened.

Instead, we had a peaceful march that isn't being properly reported. Here is a wonderful selection of photos from The Guardian who have distinguished themselves with their online reporting once more.
