Belhaven Breakers

Belhaven to Traprain Law, East Lothian. As the tide came in, the waves exploded on the rocks by the Bay. I walked home from Dunbar with the children along the Esplanade and the coastal path and we stopped a lot to explore and enjoy the late afternoon. The children were genuinely excited by the wonderful light created by the setting sun and the dramatic clouds. I was only too happy to get my feet wet and take some shots.

Now, this image looks pretty heavily processed doesn't it? Well, it's not. It came off the camera like this. That version's not even straightened and it looks pretty striking. The illumination on the rocks is reflected from the clouds and the sea, looking like somebody's put a big lighting rig on a boat just out of shot. So, I cropped and fiddled with the white balance a bit, but really - this is what it was like.

There's more on Flickr linked below, in particular we all liked this one. Again, that's straight off the camera - if anything it understates the split light created by the cloud line. Truly spectacular.

Here's all the rest on Flickr. The children were on top form, showing off and playing up. Malcolm had "gone on ahead" and phoned from home, way before we were there. So, no Malcolm. He was warm and dry in front of the telly with his gameboy, and annoyed to not be in the photos when we had the ever-popular dinner slide show. Tomorrow he has a friend round and we're off to the rocks at low tide to hunt for fossils, so lets hope for the weather - and the light!
