Beware of picts . . .
that hide in trees to catch you unaware
With awful painted faces and very messy hair
With torques made of silver and symbols carved in stone
In paper woven clothes carrying pots made of bone.
Well clay really but that doesnt rhyme.
It was open afternoon at school today to see what the kids have been learning about the Picts and full of activities for us to try with them. Lots of fun decoding messages in the Picts alphabet, painting pots, weaving paper dresses, facepainting and other such things.
We are lucky to live close to Dunnichen Hill where the Battle of Nechtansmere was fought and won by the Picts in what would become a pivotal moment in history, and to also locally have some fantastic carved stones, some still in situ and some preserved in local museums and visitor centres.
