Jelly Babies....

here are a few jelly baby facts:

1. originally called Peace Babies to celebrate the end of WW1 in 1918, the were propular between the wars but production stopped during WW2 due to rationing. Once sugar rationing was over they reappeared in 1953 as Jelly Babies.

2. As well as sugar & gelatine the sweets are dusted with starch which was originally used to help release the babies from their moulds

3. They are popular with adults & children, research has revealed mothers are more likely to bite off their heads first,while children tend to pop them in whole.

4. Although it might be considered cruelty to jelly babies, they are part of a classic science experiment performed in schools. When a jelly baby is added to an oxidising agent it bursts into flames & "screams"!
