The Travelled Path
Oh my, it was a glorious cycle through the farmlands of East Lothian today. Leaving the centre of Edinburgh at 15:00 I was soon out in the countryside where the fields were busy with farmers working into the night, ploughing and fertilizing the fields. The red soil, so characteristic of this part of the country was ablaze as the sinking sun illuminated the landscape. It was warm enough to cycle in short sleeves and also warm enough for me to see my first bats of the year as I cycled towards the shore at Tyninghame where I made my camp for the night. I pitched my wee tent with the River Tyne to the front and a fine old woodland behind. I was in my sleeping bag at 20:00 as the birdlife sang into the night. How nice to hear Jays which I rarely hear in this country, but which I hear so often when cycling in Europe.
72 kms and very happy with my lot.
