Holy Trinity Church Avonside - after the quake

such a sad sight, and there are so many small and large stone churches that have been damaged probably irretrievably by the latest quakes.

this church is a really old fashioned one with the churchyard surrounding it. some of the older gravestones have been crushed by falling masonry.

The little stained glass arched windows have all been smashed, their arches gone and you can see the internal arches of the church roof. obviously it's not weather proof so that anything left will be damaged by the rain, and be coated with silt.

So much history gone - the old neighbourhood names in the churchyard of the people who made the suburb what it is and built the church - how sad they would be to see it now.

the church was built first in cob, and then between 1874 -1954 it was gradually rebuilt in stone.
