Arkle

As you drive up the A838 from Lairg to Laxford Bridge and the road turns the corner onto the shore of Loch More, you are suddenly granted the wonderful prospect of Ben Stack. Its conical spire is asking to be climbed. So that is what I did.

After a sarnie at the car, I headed north to climb Arkle. The picture shows the view along the track from the south. I pitched the tent in a small wood at the foot of the mountain and then made my ascent. The wind rose to a maelstrom on the summit and I was well hacked off when I got blown to the ground by a gust that blew my Tibetan hat away.

The day improved as I listened to the radio commentary from Murrayfield on my descent. Scotland won at last.
