A long road for a shortcut
My pal K and I went out on our bikes this afternoon. It might look a bit grey in the pic but it was actually a mild, sunny day.
We had intended to drop in on Poppy but just as we were about to go down the hill into her village we met them driving towards us. In true Orcadian fashion we stopped for a chat in the middle of the road before they had to head off.
At this point we had to double back on our route to the main road but after a couple of miles K decided we should take an alternative route. The words 'Trust me, I know where I'm going' did actually escape her lips. It was a very pleasant road, taking us over the hill and far away and passing this view south towards Scotland. However shortly before this point K declared that she had no idea where we were.
Thankfully we just followed the road 'til we got somewhere familiar and then discovered we had come out pretty much where we had planned to be, we had just gone by a different and less busy route. We then toddled homeward for coffee and christmas cake.
