Motherhood

Have I been, am I, a good mother?
No. 2 son paid a flying visit this weekend, a brief respite from his first year at univeristy, which he is loving. We picked him up from the station on Friday night, provided home-cooked food, a warm, clean bed and a sofa of his own from which to watch the TV. All his washing was done (but not ironed!), a lift was provided to his friend's place for last night, and he was sent off with a bag of food from our own cupboards and a little extra money to see him through to the end of term. Probably a similar scenario to many others!
When he was a small boy, I am sure that I would not have let him climb the trees in a public park, whilst encouraging the same activity in the countryside, where reasonably safe. Other people seem to have more liberal views, and it makes me wonder if I got it right. For the millionth time!
He is a confident, lively, sociable young man, but with plenty of maturing still to do. He might, or might not, remember Mother's Day next weekend.
Of course, both he and his brother are the apples of my eye, whatever.
