Enter stage right...
I'm not happy with this picture because it just doesn't show what I want it to show. In truth, I'd probably need to fly overhead to get the shot I want, but what the heck...
This is a view from the right hand stage entrance of Edinburgh's outdoor theatre in Braidburn Park. It's actually very obvious when you walk through it - you can see the stage area and all the entrances from the back of the theatre and the sides where the actors enter; opposite, across the burn which separates the theatre from the audience, there is a raked bank where the seating layers are well defined - though I assume it's a bring your own cushion type situation! I understand it was used from time to time after the second world war but that the last time it was used was by the local Southern Light Opera company in 1947 but the weather was so awful, it's never been used since. Which is sad really, because it would be an incredible experience as it's a gorgeous setting.
If you look carefully along the back row, you can just about make out the breaks and paths through the trees where the actors can enter and exit.
