Yellow

Today was a big day for Ms. B....

She has been taking Shao Lin Kempo classes once a week for about 7 months now. It really began as just a fun activity for her, but even more so than that, has taught her some really good self defense skills. Some days I think she could take it or leave it, and who knows where it will go from here.

But today was the day of her belt test, the day to advance from her white belt to a yellow belt: 25 other kids, 15 instructors, in the gym of one of the local high schools. I had been forewarned by a close friend that the test can be quite "intense," quite a bit more so than class anyway. Frankly, I felt like I was throwing her to the wolves.... At 5, she probably wasn't the youngest one there, but definitely one of the most petite.

All in all, a fantastic experience with many smiles and tears of joy from the proud parents :) So, so proud of you Ms. B.

Now we're off to a fun night of bowling with some close friends, and a bit of showing off the new belt, I'm sure :)
