The one-eyed lichen
Found this unusally small individual of the lichen Xanthoparmelia conspersa on a rock. I thought it looked like a cyclops! But looking closer, I could see a few more eyes growing there...
The "eyes" are the sporeproducing organs of the fungal part of the lichen, called apothecia. Hope you don't mind my little lecture. :-)
