Shedding

I found this young man shedding his velvet. A rather painful process for a deer apparently because the velvet is what supplies the blood to the antlers while they're growing (which is why in large you'll be able to see blood on his antlers). It seems sad that they go through all that energy to grow them and then will lose them again next spring.
