The books I have been reading
Time for bed approaches fast. I've decided to show you the books I have been reading recently.
The Glass Palace by Amitrav Ghosh was recommended to me during my holiday in India. A fascinating saga set in Burma and India and covering 100 years from 1885. Kept my attention.
The Boy in the dress by David Walliams. I read this in one sitting. I'm not sure what age of children this is aimed at, but it is a heartwarming tale of dealing with difference (pity there is less tolerance in real life).
Forty four Scotland street by Alexander McCall Smith. This is the first of the Scotland Street series. I heard the author talking and reading sections from this series a couple of weeks ago. It's witty and light reading. Very enjoyable (especially the sections about 5 year old Bertie)
The True Deceiver by Tove Jansson, the author of the Moomin books for children. She also wrote adult fiction, only recently translated. I loved this novel. It is written with sparing language and describes the development of relationships hauntingly. Highly recommended.
And finally, to the book I am reading now, A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. This is the book I received on World Book Night. It was a runner up in the Booker. It is another saga set in Asia, and I can't wait to read the next chapter!
