Coquille River Lighthouse
The Coquille River Lighthouse, orriginally called the Bandon Light was commissioned in 1895 and first lit February 29, 1896. It boasted a fourth order Freznel lens in a black lantern house atop a 40 foot tall red and white brick stuccoed constructed conical tower attached to the signal building. The focal height was 47 feet above high tide and the light was visible for 12 miles at sea.
In September 1936, a large fire destroyed much of Bandon all but ending shipping in the port. The light was decommissioned in 1939.
Restoration of the light began in 1976. However, the keeper's quarters and other outbuildings were removed due to deterioration and vandalism. The restoration project continues today.
