"The spirit of youth in America"
Painted in 1977 by Charles Lobdell on the side of the Hamilton Methodist Church, Waller Street at Belvedere.
This is only a portion of the mural; it covers the entire side of the building.
If you look to the right, you can almost make out the distant Utopian city--forever arched with a rainbow--and the giant redwood that extends to the stars.
Out of the frame and to the left, three people of indistinct racial heritage hold hands in front of a geodesic dome and rudimentary satellite receiver, while others gather a bountiful harvest. A cornucopia spills out over the land from two heavenly hands.
I'd have given anything today for a wider angle lens.
