Mepe Wasem
While cruising downtown Austin afoot, I came upon a small bazaar on South Congress. Meandering through the different vendors' booths, I met this gentleman.
He is from Ghana, and I seized the opportunity to say one of the very few phrases I know in Akan, one of the native dialects of that country. So, I said, "mepe wasem," which roughly translates as "I love you," or "we're friends."
He was quite elated that someone in Texas could speak a bit of his native language, and he offered this smile as evidence.
