Norton
It seems only polite and proper after last Tuesday's Hart and the previous Tuesday's Mould to complete the Holy Husker Trinity with the ubiquitously commented-upon extavangantly-moustachied Husker Du bassist Greg Norton. I managed to track him down for a natter, here he is applying a little wax and a little twistling to his magnificent facial furniture. I know what you're thinking, I've been thinking it myself, he does look a bit like me, some would say the resemblance is somewhat uncanny. You'd also be correct in thinking that, yes, Greg is wearing his 'tache a little, er, shorter and generally less baroque than in the band's glory days.
Greg was the unsung hero of the band, a bit of a regular guy by all accounts and whilst Bob and Grant were writing all the songs and falling out over pretty much everything, Greg just got his head down and took care of business. Had a blast of Candy Apple Grey this morning, not their finest but enough quality on there to still make it nigh on essential. I never had a favourite out of the band's two songwriters but, whilst I have Bob down as the more solid and consistent, Grant was a little more maverick and for all the highs there was definitely the occasional low (more Husker Duff than Husker Du). But, in full stride, he was pretty untouchable.
NOTE: Next week I start my project featuring every member of The Fall on alternate Thursdays only. Estimated completion date: October 2014
