Memorial

This memorial is located in St Peter's Episcopal Church on Francis Street here in Stornoway. It is dedicated to the memory of Signalman John Alex Macaskill of Keith Street, Stornoway, who perished in the sinking of HMY Iolaire on 1 January 1919. Another 200 sailors perished at the same time.

John Alex is also remembered on the Lewis War Memorial, the Nicolson Institute War Memorial as well as through the CWGC stone on his grave in the Old Cemetery at Sandwick. He was only 19.
