Crunchy Pesto?

In general, Pesto *isn't* supposed to be crunchy. The small yellow wood-like piece on the right was an unexpected addition in my jar of tomato pesto, something I've never encountered before and certainly wouldn't care for biting in it, for it's quite hard to chew....Eeew. :/

The piece on the left is just a regular piece of tomato skin, as usually found in tomato pesto. :)
