Traditional British Communication
A beautiful day today - I could almost believe Spring is here as we walked to the Quay at Mudeford. We always pass these two icons of British history - a George 5th post box whose vertical slot has often been too small to take my letters - and a red telephone box. Though the walk was to see the sea I felt these deserved my blip. Behind is a bus stop and above the post box is a telegraph pole so I feel they represent a whole host of communication!
The red telephone box, a public telephone kiosk designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, was a familiar sight on the streets and despite a reduction in their numbers in recent years I still see many out and about on walks. The colour red was apparently chosen to make them easy to spot.
I have always been fascinated by the vertical slot on the post box which I dont recollect having seen before. I am sure some enthusiast out there will tell me they are very common!
