Spare the rod, Spoil the Child?
In that moment of being a parent and wanting to be the best you can be- you get pretty crazy ideas. Hannah Montana was in town back in early January. The hottest ticket around (so my kids told me). We tried to get them, and like most people, we were not lucky enough to score the ticket of the year (according to my kids). Would my kids be damaged for life not getting to go? The tickets for the show were ONLY starting at $250.00 per seat!
So fast forward to the DAY of the concert a few weeks ago. I am up early, surfing the classifieds thinking I can BUY tickets, same day at the event. I had delusions of spending up to $150.00 a ticket, $600 for a family of four to go. I thought this would be a good "thing to do".
Lucky I looked at my checkbook and realized it was crazy, would I get genuine tickets, what if this, what if that? What if???
Reason and rational won out that day and we did not go-
I am still a great Dad and my kids are all fine with not going, they did not know anyone locally who got tickets either- all is fine in the world.
Today, my wife and the girls, along with another friend and her child went to SEE the Hannah Montana Movie (Disney 3-D) locally. They had a blast.
My girls along with a friend sang, danced in the aisles and saw their pre-teen hero doing her thing.
So glad to be a Dad who gets to "Spoil the Child" with in reason.
Peace all,
dave
