Heroic self-sacrifice
I was in London today, and having a few minutes before lunch I visited Postman's Park. This park is notable for the monument to heroic sacrifice: I took this photo of one of the several panels, each bearing many plaques detailing the heroic death of men, women and even children who died saving others.
It is an astonishingly poignant memorial, and very moving to read all of the plaques.
The park is also noted for being built on several old burial grounds, and it can be a little disconcerting to see tombstones hidden behind the shrubs. If I get the chance I'll take a photo of them next time I visit the mainland.
