Pokey
I was on a SILENT retreat...and this little kiddo with his family come to hang out around the pond. Not helpful, I think to myself. But my countinance generally comes across as reasonably tolerable, and...I was being silent, so, I decided I'd get over it and move to a different section of the pond as they came into my "territory".
I walk away (taking my time so as to avoid collecting the wormies all over my personage), and kiddo comes running toward me with his black coat floating behind him like a cape, and chewing on his finger. Weird little fella. He stops directly in front of me.
Kiddo: "Remember...those things back there, in the grass, when you see them, if you touch them, they WILL sting you."
Me: (Um...what things back in the...?)"oh no! Is that what happened?"
Kiddo: Picks at his finger. "I don't know where, but it is somewhere in my BODY!"
He bites his finger and runs off to find his mother.
This was the only pokey looking thing "back there" I found...but...he really could have been talking about pretty much anything I suppose, and THIS is why children are awesome. They are the best communicators in the known universe. And when I say "best", I mean their words are combined for optimal entertainment value - and it happens naturally! Beautiful :)
