Cornelius Bosch

A renowned South African painter has vanished from his Pretoria home without a trace.

Cornelius Bosch, 55, who was last seen on February 24, is believed to have disappeared from his Kameeldrift home on Tuesday.

His disappearance has left his family and friends gravely concerned for his safety.

Local detectives and the Gauteng provincial detective services are looking for him.

The art website Artween said Bosch describes himself as a South African artist who has been working as a painter full-time for 20 years. His works range from landscapes to abstract paintings.

Carstens, an art dealer who sells Bosch?s paintings, said his family and friends were beside themselves. We do not know what to think. His house is neat and tidy and there are no signs of a struggle.

What adds to the mystery is that his Bible, toothbrush and other personal items are still at the house, which means he hasn't gone on a trip. We don't know what could have happened to him. It's very unusual, she said.

Bosch's bakkie and cellphone were missing, she added.

Carstens described Bosch as a kind, caring and loving person who loved helping others.

He grew up in the Graskop area of Mpumalanga and was a bachelor who lived alone on his smallholding.


I am fortunate to be in possession of one of his paintings that I bought about fifteen years ago.
I loved the vibrant colors then and still do.

I hope that this mystery is soon solved: unfortunately I do not have a very positive feeling about the outcome.
