mangoes
These are mangoes growing. The mango season will start in about 2 weeks which pleases me as Cambodia mangoes really are the most delicious mangoes I have ever eaten. At the moment the trees, which grow everywhere are absolutely laden with fruit. You never see a lone mango tree. They always grow in little orchards - something to do with cross pollination and fertilisation I guess. Apparently it is good to have a lot of rain in the wet season as this will ensure a bumper crop. I recently asked why we had started to have some showers before the wet season officially starts and was told that this too is a good thing and will ensure that the mangoes are soft and juicy. They are collected either by children shinning up the tree and collecting or more ingeniously with a long length of bamboo or blue drainpipe that has just a wide enough bore for the fruit to fall through after it has been prodded to loosen it from the stalk.Fresh from the tree or bought at practically no cost at all from the market these mangoes make a wonderful breakfast or snack to eat with lunch and dinner. As soon as the rainy season starts the mangoes disappear.
