Adventures in Carnivorism
Warning to picky eaters, squeamish folk, and vegetarians: Stop reading here and just move along to the next page.
Mr. DH is a member of an outdoorsman-y kind of club, and every year they have a wild game dinner. We're both pretty adventurous eaters and have wanted to go for several years, but the tickets always sell out. This year, Mr. DH was on the ball and got tickets the day they went on sale.
The feast did not disappoint. For appetizers we had venison teriyaki skewers (very good), venison snack sticks, bear stew (meh), turtle soup, and moose chili. Main dishes we tried were elk steaks (outstanding - the best dish we had), elk lasagna, fried frog legs (yes, they do taste like chicken), wild boar roast, elk shepherd's pie, deep fried alligator, pheasant cacciatore, deep fried wild turkey (much more flavorful than domestic) and venison kebabs (pictured here).
We had a great time with our friends, and we all tried a wider variety of game than we thought we would. All in all, as they said, it was "moose elkscellent!"
