I Wave My Hand to All I Meet...
First off, today's blip taken by my better half.
He's been up the hills again, in the Galloway Forest Park, two peaks, The Merrick and something else.
I quite fancy it myself, but not with 20 Scouts and assorted parents. Added to which I need to get my fitness levels up before I start a climb to even 500 metres, let alone 1000!
Galloway Forest Park is the UK's first Official Dark Sky Park. This is the reason I'd love to get up there.
The Scouts drive down, walk an hour, pitch their tents, sleep over night, and then reach the summit in the morning. I would want to camp as close to the summit as I could, and take full advantage of the dark skies.
I have a dreamy vision, of laying in my fully thermal insulated sleeping bag, wearing thermals, and a wooly hat, head sticking out of my tent, while resting on my better half's pillow (well I'm not going to get my pillow damp am I? ), gazing upwards and watching shooting starts, satelites and comets soar through the night sky.
That being said, knowing my imagination, you would actually probably find me sitting in the centre of the tent, (so that no one could stab me through the tent), wrapped in all of my clothes, sobbing my heart out terrified that something, or someone was going to come and get me, praying that the sun would rise sooner than expected.
Aha! Now we find the real reason I'm not up a hill of a Saturday night!
