Paper

The Royal Paper Mill is a pub in Tovil which I pass many days on the way to and from Maidstone or work, it's about a mile from where I live. and it's one of only two pubs tied to Goachers; a local microbrewery. This pub sits at the end of the Loose valley with its mill ponds and history of papermaking; James Whatman revolutionised the paper industry by developing "wove paper" and that was a few miles away in Maidstone. Opposite the pub sits an ornamental fountain with a plaque recording the importance of the river Medway in carrying materials to support the industry. I've always thought that this looks like a cosy sort of local pub but I've yet to visit it.

The green hoardings to the bottom right of the image mark where another pub used to sit - The Rose closed and was bulldozed very promptly about three years ago. That marks the junction of Straw Mill Hill which goes off to the left and runs up and out of the base of the valley.

Celebrate Sunday - some of you have to go to work tomorrow!
