Not quite what I wanted

I really wanted this daffodil on a black background but it hasn't worked. I put black paper behind it but couldn't get the flower to be bright while the paper stayed dark. What am I doing wrong? I did it inside with the lights on this evening, would doing it during the day help?

I wish I'd tried the flower head in a vase of lemonade but then that would just be copying the 2 others on here I've seen and Cameron wouldn't be happy if I broke his flower!
