"Tyre Deflation"
We decided to take a trip to Felixstowe for a day out at the beach. We had a great day with Bracken meeting several new doggy friends including another Border Terrier (Buddy) and a Norfolk Terrier bitch. Dinner was delicious fish and chips and then a further walk at the Felixstowe Docks where there is a lovely Nature Reserve.
On our way home on the A14 we had a serious tyre deflation on the front offside tyre! At the time I was driving at 70mph plus a little bit. I am lucky in that the "Grand Cherokee" has a tyre pressure monitoring system fitted to it as this gave me a warning of the impending problems that I was about to be faced with.
With this system fitted I was able to stop safely and without any injury to ourselves. Within 15 minutes of my phone call the "Suffolk Traffic Police" and the "Red Rocket Recovery Team" were with us. Thanks to both teams for their very quick response and asssistance in what could have been a very nasty situation. Once the Police Officer had arrived and on his advice, whilst he slowed the traffic down, I had to very carefully drive the car just further along the A14 around the corner onto a slip road where there was a hardstanding (see above picture) which I must admit felt a lot safer than standing behind that noisy barrier!
I'm not sure what poor Bracken made of it having to be disturbed from his sound sleep in his travel cage and then for safety reasons stand behind the barrier on the very noisy roadside until help arrived! I think may be a quiet day in tomorrow for all of us would be in order!
