What Really Matters?

But what else matters? I know there are things that do matter, but there's so much else that matters to some people and not others. So what really does matter? What should matter to me?

Some friends were discussing - arguing - today at lunch about how quantum mechanics really doesn't make sense, and yet somehow, almost simultaneously, it does ... but how much does it really matter that we understand exactly how the world works? Why am I studying physics anyway?

I suppose what really matters to you might not really matter to me, and vice versa. I think that's the way it's supposed to be.
