Patience is a virtue
As the people reading this who know me will know, 'patient' is not a word that would best describe me. I want things done yesterday, let alone right now! But, as shown by the iron, my new endeavour to make my wedding dress has already taken me to unfamiliar territory.
The fabric I chose is a silk charmeuse in 'natural' (which is not quite beige, not quite ivory, not quite white). One problem with such a delicate fabric is that you can't use chalk or pencil to mark the fabric, less it show through the final garment. So, all markings must be done in thread. No problem if you sew the proper way and cut out carefully and just sew 15 mm from the cutting line. But, of course, I don't and I work with seam lines, not cutting lines. So I has to painstakingly sew round EACH pattern piece. Definitely a lesson in patience. And the subject of this blip showing two days' worth of tacking by hand (essentially the same idea as measure twice, cut once). At least it is starting to look like a dress, but still a long way to go!
You may notice from the photo that I have sewn my seams wrong side together. This will be explained in a later post, but rest assured, I did it on purpose!
