weather forecasts.....

sorry to crack on about the weather but most folks in yyc have had enough. Last night (close to midnight) it was -24ish and a balmy -4 was forecast for the morning. It is possible - when a chinook (pronounced shinuk) blows in the temp can rise 20 degrees in a couple of hours. Chinook translates as "snow eater' in the blood language. It is a foehn wind (adiabatic compression as the wind roars over the rockies...)

well - we were all waiting for -4 and it was -29 (inc wind chill) we all feel gypped....

I have no idea how a helicopter got named after it.....
